History and Pre-Law Options

Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:Ìý

  1. develop a body of historical knowledge with range and depth
  2. think historically
  3. understand, critically evaluate, and effectively use complex and often competing historical sources and interpretations
  4. communicate clearly and appropriately through various media and within different contexts, especially formal historical writing
  5. engage a diversity of viewpoints in a civil and constructive fashion

Teacher Education Option

Based on standards established by the National Council of Social Studies, upon completion of the Teacher Education option of this program, the student will possess the knowledge, capabilities, and dispositions to organize and provide instruction at the appropriate school level for the study of:

  1. culture and culture diversity
  2. time, continuity, and change
  3. people, places, and environments
  4. individual development and identity
  5. individuals, groups, and institutions
  6. power, authority, and governance
  7. production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services
  8. science, technology, and society
  9. global connections and interdependence
  10. civic ideals and practices
  11. history, geography, civics and government, and psychologyÌý
