Student Government Association PositionsThe Student Government Association is organized into two branches: the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch, which work together to write legislation to improve our campus. SGA CommitteesAt ÌÇÐÄAPP, there are many committees that actively seek student voices. These committees vary in focus and time commitment, allowing students to find opportunities that match their interests. For more information, contact sga@wiu.edu. Senators-at-LargeThe WIU Student Government Association has two voting member seats in the Senate designated for Senators-at-Large (SAL). These representatives serve the entire student body and work to address campus-wide concerns. For more information, contact the SGA President. Council on Student Elections and RepresentationThe Council on Student Elections and Representation (CSER) oversees and evaluates the SGA election process. Members collaborate to review election rules, monitor candidates, and ensure fair election procedures. Meeting times are determined based on student availability. Student Support & Engagement Committee
Chairs: Ripley Zanger & Kaitlynn Tutt
Focus: Enhancing student engagement by fostering involvement opportunities and ensuring students feel supported in their academic and extracurricular pursuits.
- Create academic and engagement initiatives as needed
- Support underrepresented student populations
- Collect and share student feedback
Why: Strengthens student connections to campus life, increases participation in events, and ensures students have access to resources that contribute to their success.
Equity & Impact Committee
Chairs: Chantal Garcia & Akera Griffith
Focus: Addressing systemic equity issues on campus while expanding beyond traditional DEI programming.
- Partner with the Multicultural Center and lead SGA-driven equity initiatives
- Conduct campus surveys on inclusion and student needs
- Present findings and recommendations to administration
- Support advocacy efforts such as accessibility and mental health initiatives
Why: Positions SGA as a leader in creating meaningful, measurable change rather than focusing solely on event-based programming.
Collaboration & Relationships Committee
Chairs: Sydnee Osgood, Nick Allgeyer & Jade Cross
Focus: Strengthening relationships between SGA, student organizations, and faculty while increasing SGA’s visibility across campus.
- Develop collaborative events with student organizations and faculty
- Explore how SGA is perceived by both students and faculty
- Create opportunities such as an SGA–Faculty mentorship program
- Brainstorm and recommend guest speakers to the Speaker of the Senate
Why: Bridges gaps between students and faculty, strengthens campus relationships, and promotes collaboration on key initiatives.
Organizational Structure & Governance Committee
Chairs: Kevin Buford & Winter Hurst-Leadicker
Focus: Managing constitutional responsibilities and ensuring governance processes are clear, effective, and followed.
- Oversee and uphold the SGA Constitution
- Monitor the structure and function of both Cabinet and Senate
- Ensure accountability within SGA operations
Why: Maintains accountability, ensures smooth operations, and upholds constitutional integrity and fairness within SGA.
